I had an interesting experience recently after discovering apophysis fractal generator, which I quickly became addited to. I found out quickly many people hate the fractals. There is clearly a pecking order where "real" paint artists hate digital artists, digital artists who use brushes in photoshop hate those that use plugins, and plugin/3D render artists hate fractalists.
